Gunjan Veda is a writer, public policy strategist, development consultant and the Founder Director of INDIAreads.com, India's largest online library.
Gunjan began her career as a journalist with the Indian Express and went on to work in Manipur after the Manorama incident of 2004. Subsequently, she was appointed as Officer on Special Duty at the Planning Commission, engaging with sectors like Health, Women & Children, Nutrition, Handlooms and Handicrafts.
In 2009, Gunjan conceptualised and started INDIAreads.com, an online platform that seeks to make books accessible to everyone across the country. A few years later, she worked with healthcare philanthropist and Co-Founder of iGate Corporation, Mr Sunil Wadhwani to set up WISH (Wadhwani Initiative for Sustainable Healthcare), a not-for-profit that identifies and supports healthcare entrepreneurs across the country.
Gunjan has authored many reports and newspaper articles. Her first book, Beautiful Country: Stories from Another India, (with Dr Syeda Hameed) was published by Harper Collins in 2012. She has just finished her second book, a volume that celebrates Dalit cultural capital and everyday heroes.
An avid cultural enthusiast and traveller, Gunjan loves interacting with people, learning about fast disappearing cultural forms and sharing nuggets about people and polity, art and artists through powerful stories - oral as well as written. She likes to describe herself as a nomad with an insatiable wanderlust and a compulsive bookaholic; someone who is happiest when surrounded by mounds and mounds of books, a crisp wind and some happy birdsong!Back
